Honest Abe
aka: Lincoln 8
Release Date: Oct. 26, 2008
Honest Abe in a way is the turning point in the posters no longer looking like complete shit, from a design standpoint. I finally dropped the photoshop filter aging effect for good. The image itself is still extremely basic, but at least it looks like it was drawn for that size, rather than reusing an image and trying to fidget it in there some how.
And finally I found it appropriate to parody his "Four score and seven years ago" speech. I toyed with the idea of only using speeches of his to parody, but quickly gave up on that concept. We also get his bandanna for the first time, which would be a precursor to me later adding even more stuff to his hat.

Lincoln 9
Release Date: Dec. 14, 2008
Make no mistake, I hate Twilight.
I've even gotten passed the sparkling vampires who aren't really vampires concept (I was actually surprised though to see that the werewolves didn't turn into hybrid cars or cups of phony Chinese tea). The whole story itself, from what I've gathered, seems to glorify abusive relationships around shallow characters. Apparently the writing sucks too.
Anywho, I made this for my friend Liz (I framed it, and I think its even in her office, not sure) as a Christmas gift and also to politely mock her for goading me into seeing the movie. Don't misunderstand that, she probably hates the series more than I do, but she was right that it would be not just a clusterfuck, but home to many unintentionally funny scenes.
I hate Twilight, thus Lincoln must destroy them.

Lincoln Civil War Zone
Release Date: Jan. 6, 2009
So much to say about this one.
Obviously, this is a straight up parody to Punisher War Zone, which was not only absolutely terrible, but also did horribly at the box office. That's not what the original idea was though.
At the beginning, I wanted to do a poster just to mock all the stupid remakes we have gotten over the years. I had even drawn up a Lincoln poster with a completely different looking Abe. Never liked it. The next concept was to not only poke more fun at Twilight, but also myself, by presenting the Stephenie Myer's Lincoln (never drawn) which would obviously have characters that in no way looked like the originals (Orson Welles would have his name spelled wrong and be a svelte lumberjack). None of that happened.
What did happen though, was that I accidentally made up things I really liked. The Civil War Zone title sounds cool to me, but the most popular was adding guns and knives and whatever to his hat, which continued long after this concept.
That's the standard three, I would however like to take some more space to write about some of my other favourite Lincoln concepts and drawings I've found here on DevArt from different great artists. I highly recommend checking out all of their galleries.
by I believe this is the first incarnation of a Steampunk Lincoln that is so very popular (and why wouldn't it be, steampunk is awesome). The little steam gauges and pocket watches set this one off for me.
by There are quite a few Lincoln Hates Werewolves drawings out there based on Stephen Linsday's concept (Hell, I even did one for him), but this one is far above my favourite. It's down and dirty old school that just appeals to me.
by Okay, that one is cheating, since he did that for my Lincoln contest awhile back, but I've always maintained that ~Xero-Tau is one of the finest artists I've met here on DevArt. If I were ever to adapt Lincoln into a comic, this concept would be riding shotgun with it as its own story. It could even be more epic.
That be it for the day.
